Harmful Sun vs. Harmful Sun Protection…

You know you’re not going outside (..or its NIGHT for goodness sakes!) but you still apply SPF daily. It’s in every layer of cosmetic you wear… and that’s good, right? Here in Minneosta (USA), it’s pretty difficult to know weather the sun will be out at all on any given day or if you’ll be so drenched in rays that you burn over your 20 min lunch break outside. To put it simply, it’s un-predictable here! In preperation we slather on the SPF moisturizer annnnnnnd sit in our house while it rains, crank the Smiths, and curse this cruel Mid West…all SPF’d up and nowhere to go! At least you are protecting yourself from cancer and pre-mature aging while you sit on Pintrest! You ain’t no Patricia Krentcil!!!

But, it may not be just the SUN you need protection from if you are worried about these two things….

The Big Question: Which will you choose?

Cancer & Wrinkles vs. Cancer & Illness

Two kinds of cancers? *throws self on floor*  That’s right, we are talking about the fact that while you are  protecting yourself from cancerous  UV Rays you may, in turn,  be exposing your body to other cancer causeing chemicals. In your standard SPF lotion you have a handful of  ingredients that you should be a little leary of. However, there are some really awesome SPF lotions that do not contain those chemicals….you just have to know what to look for!

In no order of importance:  avobenzone, octinoxate, octocrylene, oxybenzone and padimate O

“Properly known as 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone or benzophenone-3, oxybenzone is one of the main ingredients in non-mineral sunscreens as it is relied upon to provide UVB protection, by absorbing UVB radiation, and UVA protection by acting as a chemical stabilizer for avobenzone, an effective but less chemically stable UVA agent.

Not only has oxybenzone been shown to be easily absorbed through the skin and into the blood stream from sunscreen application, it is also a known hormonal disruptor – a classification of chemicals that can mimic or disrupt the bodies natural production of hormones which may lead to several health consequences including some cancers (e.g. bisphenol-A and breast cancer). site

So what can we do to protect ourselves from the harmful rays of the sun and protect our bodies from chemocals that may do damage as well? The answer lies in Mineral Sunscreens: the use of naturals minerals and oxides to block UV rays from being absorbed by the sun. There, that’s Simple! Check this list for a wide range of SAFE SUNBLOCKS that will work for you and yours.
(NaturalNews) Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen recently made the bold move of publicly denouncing conventional sunscreens. According to a report in the New York Daily News Bundchen called the toxic lotions “poison,” and said that she never puts any synthetic chemicals on her body.

“I cannot put this poison on my skin,” the 30-year-old is quoted as saying while promoting her own natural line of body products. “I do not use anything synthetic.”

Bundchen’s comments naturally sparked the wrath of many so-called experts who quickly defended sunscreen as a necessary intervention to prevent skin cancer. Head of dermatology at Brazil’s National Cancer Institute, for instance, immediately began making bizarre allegations that sunscreen is of “fundamental importance” for preventing cancer, even though no evidence exists to back such claims.

A 2008 study released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that roughly 97 percent of Americans are contaminated with oxybenzone, a toxic sunscreen additive that is linked to allergies, hormone disruption, cell damage, and low birth weights (http://www.naturalnews.com/022990_o…). And according to Philippe Autier, a scientists at the International Agency for Research on Cancer, sunscreens actually cause skin cancer rather than prevent it (http://www.naturalnews.com/029110_s…).

“Sunscreens were never developed to prevent skin cancer,” Zoe Diana Draelos, editor of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology said in a 2010 report. “In fact, there is no evidence to recommend that sunscreens prevent skin cancer in humans.”

Besides containing a slew of toxic chemicals, sunscreens also block out the necessary ultraviolet (UV) rays that the skin needs to produce vitamin D. Limited sun exposure combined with the heavy use of toxic sunscreens is responsible for widespread vitamin D deficiency and its related diseases (http://www.naturalnews.com/vitamin_…).
